Carissimi
La chiesa che vedete nel riquadro è dedicata alla B. V. di Bonaria,
Patrona Massima della Sardegna e sorge a pochi metri dal luogo dove
sorgeva la vecchia chiesa dedicata alla Madonna del Mare. E’ una
chiesa piccola e accogliente, non sufficiente ad accogliere il gran
flusso di persone che si riversa a Cala Gonone nel periodo estivo.
Esternamente ha un aspetto dimesso ma all’interno rivela, pur nella
semplicità, il suo fascino perché custodisce tante opere d’arte di
artisti e artigiani locali. Chi viene pertanto a Cala Gonone è
invitato ad entrare nel Tempio dove potrà scoprire un angolo di
silenzio che favorisce la riflessione e la contemplazione. Durante
l’estate nel salone adiacente si può visitare una mostra di vecchie
fotografie che documentano la crescita del piccolo borgo durante il
XX secolo. Ora Cala Gonone anche in inverno conta 1600 residenti
perché vengono a stabilirsi molte famiglie giovani che si spostano
dalla vicina Dorgali. Per conoscere meglio la vita della comunità
che vi risiede può essere utile visitare il sito della Parrocchia. A

The Church
From Our
Lady of the Sea to Our Lady of Bonaria
Dearest parishioners,
These few lines which I am writing to you represent more than just a
historical testament to the reopening for worship of our renovated
and enlarged parish church; they are an act of love to the most
blessed Mary, Mother of Christ, who, before being honoured by the
titles of Our Lady of the Sea and Our Lady of Bonaria, was always
considered the protectress of our village, and called by many of our
friends “The Beautiful One”. At the same time, I pay tribute to the
community of Cala Gonone for its youthfulness, and therefore its
power to express human values and welcome tourists, and above all
for the grace of its fraternal service within the Church. The parish
church with its new look ought to be a strong incentive for this
potential to be realised in the daily lives of all the people of
Gonone.
May God the
Father, through the Son, in the power and light of the Spirit show
us and all the world the way to follow in the new millennium.
